Kamala Harris will campaign in Phoenix next week with yet-to-be-named running mate

According to two individuals briefed on the arrangements, Vice President Kamala Harris and her unidentified running mate have plans to visit six battleground states over the course of four days next week.

The two individuals, who insisted on remaining anonymous in order to discuss sensitive preparations that have not yet been finalized, said that assistants to Ms. Harris are scheduling travel for the new Democratic ticket starting next Tuesday and continuing through Friday.

According to the draft travel schedule, Ms. Harris is expected to announce her running partner by next Tuesday, ahead of the deadline of August 7 set by her campaign last week for selecting the vice-presidential nominee. The news that she and her running mate would be campaigning next week was originally reported by Reuters.

On Tuesday afternoon, arrangements were still being finalized on the states that Ms. Harris and her running mate would visit first, as well as the day of their visit. Someone who examined the draft schedules and reported their contents said she intends to visit Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Just five candidates are reportedly still being seriously considered for the vice presidential position: Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona; governors Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Tim Walz of Minnesota, and Andy Beshear of Kentucky; and transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg. The vice president’s team initially requested screening materials from a dozen candidates.

Last Monday, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper withdrew himself from consideration after refusing to take part in the screening procedure.

The advisers to Ms. Harris have scheduled time for her to reflect on her decision which is regarded as one of the most significant ones a presidential contender makes and to interview further candidates in the coming days.

However, she has an appearance at a Georgia campaign rally tonight. Campaign assistants anticipate several thousand spectators.
