The Peoria Unified School District needs community input to determine the mascot and school colors for Sunset Heights Elementary School, the district’s 33rd elementary school, set to open its doors to students in August 2014.

Mascot suggestions and school colors are currently being sought from families whose children will be attending the new elementary school this fall.

Entries should be submitted to pusdpr@pusd11.org by April 23 and should include the full name, age and contact information of the person submitting the nomination.

Top name recommendations will be shared with district administrators at the beginning of May and Principal Conelley will reveal the mascot and school’s colors at an upcoming community gathering.

The 96,000-square-foot school will be the first of its kind for the Peoria Unified School District with flexible learning spaces and natural light. The school will open to kindergarten through seventh-grade on Wednesday, Aug. 6 and will add an eighth-grade class the following year.

For questions regarding the new school or the mascot and school color contest, contact Peoria Unified Public Relations at 623-486-6100 or email pusdpr@peoriaud.k12.az.us.
