Updated Aug. 4 after 8 p.m.: More elections results came in Thursday night, winners were called in several major races, and candidates named to face off in the November general elections.

After more primary election results were posted tonight, Kari Lake’s lead increased in the race for Governor, The Associated Press and CNN called Lake the winner, and Karrin Taylor Robson conceded. Lake will run against Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in the November general elections.

Former Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes lead grew in the Democratic race for Arizona Secretary of State grew and House Minority Leader Rep. Reginald Bolding conceded. Fontes will run against Rep. Mark Finchem in November general elections.

Updated Aug. 3 after 8 p.m.: At 7 p.m. tonight, about more ballots were verified and tabulated in Maricopa County and added to the primary election results, with Kari Lake ahead of Karrin Taylor Robson in the race for Republican candidate for governor.

Earlier today, Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said the majority of voters in the county used early ballots, while 12 to 13% voted in person.

Shortly after noon, Lake declared victory in her race after posting an 11,324 vote lead, while Robson encouraged people to wait patiently while ballots continue to be counted.

Adrian Fontes is ahead in the Democratic race for Arizona Secretary of State in early results.

House Democratic Leader Reginald Bolding released a statement about the delay in the results for the Democratic Primary Election for Secretary of State. The race between Bolding and former Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes is too close to call and votes are still being counted. 

“Votes are still being counted here in Arizona. We’re making sure that every Arizonan who cast a vote in this primary has their voice heard,” Rep. Bolding said. “I’ve spent my career fighting for democracy, so I’m glad to see it in action, even if it means we have to wait for the results.” 

“Many thanks to all the Arizonans who supported us. Our team is optimistic so far and we will give updates as more information becomes available,” Rep. Bolding said.

Rep. Mark Finchem is leading Republican candidates for Arizona Secretary of State.

House Speaker Rusty Bowers lost the race to be the Republican candidate for his Senate seat.

Voting locations for Arizona Primary Elections opened at 6 a.m. today and will remain open until 7 p.m. as voters choose candidates to face off in the General Elections in November.

Gov. Doug Ducey reminds people they can drop off their early mail in ballot at a voting center or drop box today.

Also, Maricopa County voters can cast their ballot at any voting center, and that should reduce the number of provisional ballots.

If you’re casting your ballot at a voting center, remember to bring your ID.

If you experience issues while voting, make sure to let elections workers know.

Most races will be decided when unofficial results are released after 8 p.m. tonight, ABC 15 Arizona’s Data Analyst Garrett Archer told KJZZ 91.5 FM earlier today. But since early ballots turned in on election day take longer to process, some races won’t have a clear winner until the next elections results updates in coming days.

“We are expecting a total turnout for this primary of anywhere between 1.4 million and 1.5 million,” Archer told KJZZ 91.5 FM.

While a majority of early mail-in ballots have already been received and counted, a number of people are heading to the polls today to vote or drop off their early ballots.

“Before 2020, the Republicans tended to vote much earlier and Democrats would turn in their ballot a little later, but essentially both parties voted early by a factor of about 75%,” Archer told KJZZ 91.5 FM.

“Post 2020 and we’re seeing this in this election as well, the Democratic turnout is at about 31% where Republicans are at around 29%, so there’s a 2 point deficit right now. We are expecting a much larger Republican turnout today,” Archer told KJZZ 91.5 FM.

Most of the people voting at the polls today are choosing Republican ballots. About 12 to 15% of Independents are expected to vote in the primary elections, Archer told KJZZ 91.5 FM.
