Higley Unified School District’s Coronado Elementary School is planning to offer a Mandarin immersion program for kindergarten and first-grade students next school year, with an additional grade added each year in the future.
“Students who speak English and Mandarin can communicate with 50 percent of the world’s population,” Principal Dr. Mai-Lon Wong said of one of the many benefits to learning Mandarin.
In Coronado Elementary School’s Mandarin Choice Program, students will be taught math and science by a native Mandarin speaker, while the language arts and social studies will be taught primarily in English.
Parents can learn more during informational meetings to be held over the next few months at 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.:
