Cibola’s Academic Decathlon team earns four medals at state

Cibola High School Academic Decathlon Team

Cibola High School‘s Academic Decathlon team placed 12th out of 40 teams at the state competition March 13-14 at Arizona State University’s Polytechnic Campus.

The theme this year was New Alternatives in Energy:  Ingenuity and Innovation.

Cibola’s individual medal winners included:

  • Jakob Hunter earned a gold medal in interview for scholastic
  • Joshua Avelar earned a bronze medal in Economics for scholastic
  • Jocelyn Rodriguez earned a silver medal in speech for honors
  • Roberto Martin Del Campo earned a bronze medal in Economics for Varsity

Abhijay Murugesan had the highest score on the team with 6,700.8 points, and Roberto Martin Del Campo had the greatest improvement since the Regional Competition in February, 2015 with 1050.8 more points.

The team had an increase of 6,014.7 points since the last year which almost earned them the trophy for most improved team.
