6 people taken to hospital after fire at Shepherdsville apartments Thursday night

A Thursday night fire at Shepherdsville Village on Landmark Court drove several residents to jump out the window of a second-floor apartment to escape the roaring blaze. Six people were hospitalized from the fire, which began shortly after 8 p.m.

Shepherdsville Fire Chief Jody Craig said all the people inside escaped, but some were injured in the evacuation. One of the building’s tenants described escaping in terror. Michael Gore was listening to music with three other men when they heard a commotion in the hallway. He opened the door and says he was faced with a burning stairwell and no choice but to jump out the window.

“It’s crazy,” Gore said. He went on explaining that he himself came out unharmed, but that two of his friends were not. They suffered a broken ankle and probably broke his arm. Gore related the story of hearing an explosion just minutes after they had managed to come out safely.

The authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, and more details will be furnished as the investigations continue to unearth the truth behind this tragic incident.
