It was an end of an era when Trevor Browne High School dance teacher Kathy Silk produced and directed her last dance performance, November 26.
Silk, after 26 ½ years as the dance instructor, is retiring at the end of the semester. Silk began at Trevor Browne in August, 1987 as its lead dance instructor and never left. Today, there are 128 students taking dance classes.
“She has provided thousands of young men and women both sound dance-technique instruction and choreographic freedom. More importantly, she has consistently reinforced to her learners the power of self-image, the necessity of a commitment to excellence, and the virtues of communal respectability,” social studies teacher Bill Bunstein said.
At the conclusion of the performance, dozens of Browne alumni from as far back as 1991 joined Silk in the auditorium.
“Their presence exemplified the profound influences that Kathy has had on so many individual students throughout the past quarter century,” Bunstein said.
