GLENDALE, Ariz. – With the deadline nearing to make a tax credit contribution for the 2013 tax year, Peoria Unified School District employees will be outside the District Administration Center collecting tax credit donations from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
To add a friendly battle of east vs. west, Peoria Unified and Chandler Unified School District will be tracking the amount of visitors between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to see which district brings in more patrons to their district offices.
Both school districts have tax credit forms available for pick-up at their respective district offices for those who would like to donate via check. Peoria Unified School District is located at 6330 W. Thunderbird Road in Glendale and Chandler Unified School District is located at 1525 W. Frye Road in Chandler.
Peoria Unified’s district office will have a yellow school bus parked in front and patrons who stop by to make a last-minute tax credit donation will be treated to hot chocolate and a holiday cookie. Chandler Unified will be serving tamales from Espo’s for their community.
Tax credit contributions support extracurricular activities in public schools which enrich the lives of students. One hundred percent of donated funds go directly to the school and program selected by the donor. Donations can be directed to a specific extracurricular activity, or designated to the school(s) with the greatest need.
Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows individual taxpayers a tax credit up to $200, or up to $400 as a married couple filing a joint return. If married taxpayers file separate returns, each spouse may claim half of the credit that would have been allowed on a joint return. In return, the donor is able to get the exact amount back from the state when filing a return. The amount will be deducted from any tax debt or returned as a refund. For more information, please call 623-486-6100.
Those unable to donate in person can also donate online from the comfort of their own home. Tax credit contribution forms and online donations can be made on Peoria Unified School District’s website for the community in the West Valley, whereas those who live in the East Valley can contribute to Chandler Unified online here. Online contributions can be made using a debit or credit card now through midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
