Robert Zamora, Maryvale’s Security Lead, was a keynote speaker at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Institute on School Governance, March 8.
His topic, Building Effective Emergency Response Systems for Local School Districts gave school board members and legislators from Texas, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Washington, Utah, Oregon, Colorado and Arizona an up-close and personal view of campus safety and security, crime prevention, and emergency response, and aftermath counseling.
Using a video reenactment of Columbine, and then staging a lockdown drill for the attendees, complete with sound effects and lighting, Zamora gave insight into how schools prepare for, and deal with crises.
Zamora is a member of NALEO, serving as a governing board member for the Alhambra School District.
He has been with Phoenix Union for 17 years, including 10 as a security lead.
