A number of schools in the Peoria Unified School District will pay tribute to those individuals affected by the tragedy that took place on September 11, 2001 by holding commemorative events throughout the district.
Events taking place on Thursday, Sept. 11 are listed below:

Copperwood Elementary School –11232 N. 65th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85304
Copperwood is holding a Breakfast for the Brave from 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. for all first responders. The breakfast will be held in the school’s cafeteria and is a tribute to those who serve.
Country Meadows Elementary School – 8409 N. 111th Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85345
There will be a student-led ceremony and flag-raising in front of the school just after 8:40 a.m. Announcements will include a poem and message from a student from New York that experienced 9/11 and the changes that occurred after.
Desert Harbor Elementary School – 15585 N. 91st Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85382
Desert Harbor will hold the fourth annual “Walk of Honor” at 8:30 a.m. Police, fire, military or emergency service personnel are invited to attend this event. Attendees are asked to meet in the school’s multipurpose room for pastries and coffee at 8 a.m. Morning announcements will include a commemorative message and following the announcements, the special guests will be escorted down a “Walk of Honor” where staff and students will recognize and honor those who dedicate their lives to our community and country.
Frontier Elementary School – 21258 N. 81st Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85382
Frontier will hold their annual Heroes Luncheon from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for firefighters, police officers, first responders and soldiers – past and present.
Lake Pleasant Elementary School – 31501 N. Westland Road, Peoria, AZ 85383
Lake Pleasant will hold an assembly in the multipurpose room at 8:30 a.m. The choir students will lead everyone in the National Anthem. The assembly will include a number of readings and a memorial video.

Marshall Ranch Elementary School – 12995 N. Marshall Ranch Drive, Glendale, AZ 85304
The United States Air Force National Guard will hold a flag presentation and folding along with Q&A session about the events on 9/11 and serving the military supports our country. They are planning to be in the cafeteria from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Peoria High School – 11200 N. 83rd Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85345
The Peoria High School band and AFJROTC will perform an annual flag ceremony at the flagpole at 7:35 a.m. All classes who wish to observe are invited. The band will play the National Anthem as the flag is raised and then Taps as it is lowered to half-staff. The Cadet Commander will speak. The program is anticipated to take approximately 10 minutes.
Vistancia Elementary School – 30009 N. Sunrise Point, Peoria, AZ 85383
Vistancia will commemorate the day by providing a learning opportunity for their students in the library. A staff member, Jody Beltram, will bring a full-size copy of every flag (35 iterations) that has been used in America, including a copy of the one that George Washington carried as he and his troops crossed the Delaware. All classes will visit the library to learn about the American flag and its evolution.
