GLENDALE, Ariz. – Peoria Unified School District Governing Board Member, Mr. Joe McCord passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. Mr. McCord served as a dedicated member of the Governing Board since 2009.
An advocate for children and community volunteer, Mr. McCord was once a magazine and newspaper publisher. In addition, Mr. McCord served our country for 28 years before retiring as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel.
Mr. McCord taught physics and astrophysics to children at the Challenger Space Science Center in Peoria. In 2012, Mr. McCord added to his list of accomplishments when his first book was published, entitled Stephan’s Journey.
“Mr. McCord was a tireless advocate for students and it will be difficult to replace the expertise he brought to the Peoria Unified Governing Board. He will be deeply missed,” said Peoria Unified Governing Board President, Hal Borhauer.
“Mr. McCord displayed a profound passion and commitment to the Peoria Unified School District for which we are extremely grateful,” said Superintendent, Dr. Denton Santarelli. “While Mr. McCord will be greatly missed throughout our district, we will celebrate his tremendous life and his remarkable contributions to our community.”
