Parents, students invited to Career and Technical Education event

Peoria Unified School District will hold a Career and Technical Education Career and College Readiness event for students and parents interested in learning about how Peoria Unified’s CTE programs align with careers and college degree programs.

The CTE Chart Your Pathways to Success tour will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Peoria High School’s Media Center located 11200 N. 83rd Avenue, Peoria. This event is free and is open to students from all school districts to explore the wide variety of CTE courses available.

Parents, students invited to Career and Technical Education event PeoriaCTEHPThe CTE Chart Your Pathways to Success Career and College Readiness Tour, funded in part by West-MEC, is an opportunity to explore career training classes available to high school students and how these classes will prepare them for future success. It will also provide college credit and certification options for students while still in high school.

Peoria CTE is the largest Career and Technical Education school system in Arizona offering 23 programs, such as: automotive technology, early childhood education, fashion design and merchandise, fire science, engineering, computer networking, law enforcement, media productions, nursing, sports medicine and many more. Peoria CTE prides itself on these programs which allow students to explore and experience careers while in high school and apply their skills in relevant, real-world settings.

There will be counselors on site from Peoria Unified schools to explain how CTE courses can continue at the college level. Over two dozen post-secondary educational organizations will have tables along with local employers, explaining internships and giving future employment tips. Using hands-on activities, students will be able to walk through future career choices while still in high school and use CTE programs to prepare for a bright future.

Peoria Unified School District, located in the West Valley, serves more than 36,000 students in 34 elementary schools, seven high schools and one non-traditional high school. With ongoing open enrollment and alternative educational opportunities, the district boasts a 95 percent high school graduation rate.
