Mesa students wrap up Battle of the Books BattleOfTheBooksInsideWith 47 elementary schools participating, it took three nights and five battles to determine the top three teams:

  • First place, Franklin East Elementary (Denise Lee, coordinator)
  • Second place, Hermosa Vista Elementary (Samantha Johnson, coordinator)
  • Third place, Whitman Elementary (Sandy Peterson, coordinator)

These three teams competed in the Regional Battle of the Books on May 13 at Mesquite Junior High in Gilbert.

Mesa’s top teams went up against teams from Chandler, Gilbert, Higley, Queen Creek/Combs and the newly added Deer Valley School District.

Even with the added pressure of tougher competition, five teams finished the battle with perfect scores.

A tie-breaker resulted in Gilbert’s Patterson capturing first, Chandler’s Weinberg taking second and Mesa’s Franklin East team of Ethan Fuller and Riley Duemler placing third.
