The District’s Governing Board voted unanimously on June 20, 2016 to appoint Mrs. Nora Gutierrez as Interim Superintendent of the Tolleson Union High School District (TUHSD) for the 2016-2017 school year.
Mrs. Gutierrez has been involved in education for more than thirty years. Mrs. Gutierrez began her career as a teacher and immediately knew that the most important job duty was to serve students and provide them the absolute best education so they could be successful in their future endeavors.
During her career, Mrs. Gutierrez has held the position of teacher, coach, Collaborative Peer Teacher, Assistant Principal, Human Resources Director, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, and Assistant Superintendent for Operations, Information Technology, Safety and Security, Athletics Director and most recently as the Executive Director of the Arizona Latino Association of Administrators and Superintendents.
Mr. Steven Chapman, Governing Board President, said:
“As President of the Governing Board, I am excited about the upcoming school year and look forward to continuing to lead TUHSD in the right direction with the Board and Interim Superintendent. For the past five years Tolleson has been moving in a positive direction with higher student graduation rates, retaining qualified staff and school district letter grades are on the rise. Mrs. Gutierrez is the right leader to continue to raise the bar in the district.”
Ms. Corina Madruga, Governing Board Member, stated that “TUHSD continues to be a shining star in the west valley. The process to hire our Interim Superintendent highlighted the fact that our district is a district of choice. With the high level of quality candidates received, I am extremely excited for Mrs. Gutierrez and her wealth of experience to join the TUHSD family. I have every confidence Mrs. Gutierrez will put all of our students first and continue to forge positive relationships with our community.”
Mrs. Gutierrez graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education degree from New Mexico State University and obtained her Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Arizona State University.
