For the 24th consecutive year, the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting was awarded to the Glendale Elementary School District by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was also awarded to GESD Executive Director for Finance and Auxiliary Services Mike Barragan because his department was responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.
The District’s Annual Financial Report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“At a time when financial accountability and transparency has taken on greater importance than ever before, we are proud that our District is being recognized for its efforts to inform the public about where and how we spend taxpayer dollars,” Barragan said. “I commend everyone who played a part in the audit process for all they did to earn this award.”
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington D.C.
