With the deadline nearing to make a tax credit contribution for the 2014 tax year, employees with Peoria Unified School District will be outside the District Administration Center collecting tax credit donations from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31.
Patrons who stop by to make a last-minute, drive-thru tax credit donation will be treated to hot chocolate and a holiday cookie. Tax credit contributions support extracurricular activities in public schools which enrich the lives of students.
Online contributions can be made using a debit or credit card now through midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 31. While the district office will be open for business Dec. 29 – 31, the office will be closed the week prior from December 22 – 26 for winter recess.
One hundred percent of donated funds go directly to the school and program selected by the donor. Donations can be directed to a specific extracurricular activity, such as field trips, high school marching bands and athletics, or you can designate it to the school(s) with the greatest need.
Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows individual taxpayers a tax credit up to $200, or up to $400 as a married couple filing a joint return. If married taxpayers file separate returns, each spouse may claim half of the credit that would have been allowed on a joint return. In return, the donor is able to get the exact amount back from the state when filing a return.
A tax credit may only be used to the extent it reduces a tax liability to zero. Any unused amounts may be carried forward for not more than five consecutive years. For more information, please call 623-486-6000. To download a tax credit form or make a donation online, go to www.peoriaud.k12.az.us.
