Cactus Shadows High School Principal Jim Swetter congratulated Colin McConnon, who was recently named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

“Cactus Shadows is very proud of Colin for being named a National Merit Semifinalist!  Colin is an extremely hard worker and is very deserving of this recognition,” Swetter said.

This is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955.  Students enter by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  This is the initial screening of approximately 1.6 million students each year.  Of the 1.6 million approximately 50,000 with the highest score qualify for this recognition. They are designated either a Commended Student or a Semifinalist.  About 16,000 students are notified that they qualify as Semifinalists.

Colin is one of the highest scoring students in the state of Arizona.

“Once again, Cactus Shadows High School is proud to have a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist! Colin’s hard work and tenacity has contributed to his ongoing success – Congratulations Colin!” said Cave Creek Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Debbi Burdick.

Although we won’t know until February if he’s been chosen to be a Finalist or not he certainly is showing his FALCON PRIDE!
