MacKenzie Weathers was named an ASU Medallion Scholarship recipient.  He had already earned a Dean’s Scholarship worth $6,000 and the Medallion Scholarship is $3,000 annually.  Weathers will major in business.

He is the only Phoenix Union student to receive the Medallion award this year, and one of 30 statewide. The Medallion Scholarship Program is the ASU Alumni Association’s signature scholarship initiative. The Medallion Scholarship is more than a financial award; it is a comprehensive scholarship program that incorporates components of leadership, scholarship and service.

Medallion scholars must actively participate in a mentorship program, contribute volunteer hours to the Alumni Association, maintain a satisfactory grade point average, and remain in good standing as an ASU undergraduate.

Eligibility is limited to recipients of ASU’s Dean’s Scholarship, which is awarded to Arizona high school seniors based on academic performance.

His counselor describes Weathers, the student body vice-president, as a catalyst.

“The moment he steps into a room the air changes.  He is both fully engaged and engaging to those around him. He is widely regarded by peers and faculty, not only for his willingness to brainstorm ways to problem-solve, but for his enthusiasm to see plans through to fruition,” counselor Terry Haggerty said.
