Thanks to Project Blue Elf, a new program funded by BBVA Compass Foundation, prekindergarten through second-grade students at Roosevelt Elementary received toys and decorated holiday cookies.

Volunteers from BBVA Compass Bank, Roosevelt’s educational partner, delivered toys to 300 youngsters and helped them decorate holiday cookies.

Participants included the bank’s blue elf volunteers; Lynne Herndon, BBVA Compass Phoenix city president; Darlene Shumway, Roosevelt principal; and Roosevelt prekindergarten, kindergarten, first- and second-grade students and teachers.

“Roosevelt staff and students were overwhelmed as blue elves helped us decorate cookies and then gave each student in K-2 a beautiful toy,” Shumway said. “We feel very fortunate to have our BBVA Compass educational partners. This is the second year of our partnership. Last year, they donated 31 iPads to our school. We are truly fortunate to have their support!”

Project Blue Elf is one component of a seasonal initiative that integrates donations from BBVA Compass Foundation with local bank volunteer activities. Similar events were conducted in Alabama, New York and Texas.
