5 injured, 3 hospitalized from failed experiment at Avondale high school

One adult and four teenagers were injured on Tuesday after a science experiment went wrong at La Joya Community High School in Avondale. The accident, which took place in the science building just after 3 p.m., left two girls, a 15-year-old sophomore and a 17-year-old junior, with chemical burns to their faces, according to Ron Deadman, a public-information officer with the Avondale Fire Department.
