Avondale Elementary School District creates additional support for educational success through ‘Beyond the Bell’ Program
Michael Anderson School and Avondale Middle School are able to continue providing after-school lessons to students in first through eighth grade through a targeted grant.
This includes specific academic tutoring, academic enrichment and activities like dance, art, STEAM and opportunities for collaboration of parent/family engagement.
Families also have the opportunity to participate in take-and-go cooking and paint nights while being provided supplies for the interactive zoom activities.
Through remote learning, the program has grown into a community support outlet – both for students and families. Michael Anderson has been able to have outdoor, socially distanced, masked family engagement events that provide an opportunity for fun and learning.
“This has allowed our staff to work with students in smaller groups, focusing on power standards, building student’s confidence and skills. Students look forward to Rocket Academy and make it a priority to be logged in each day. This additional relationship with a caring adult is very valuable for our students,” says Carly Schoettes, lead teacher at Michael Anderson’s Rocket Academy.
Avondale Elementary School District continues to provide these opportunities virtually to students Monday through Thursday.
