On Saturday, September 24th, Apache Junction High School hosted the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) Prospector Brain Brawl, a qualifier for the Super Brain Brawl.

The Brain Brawl is an academic competition where teams of four students each go head to head to answer Naval Science, trivia, and current event questions.

This year, for the first time, all ten Arizona NJROTC schools participated in what turned out to be a very competitive event.

Powerhouse Sahuarita High School led the way for the third consecutive year, with T-bird again giving them a run for the money.

Apache Junction returned to the top three after dropping out for the first time last year.

Another newcomer, Cortez High School, made a strong run, finishing in the medal round (4th) for the first time.

Teams will now advance to regional competition.

Under the direction of retired Marine Corps Major William Parker and retired Navy Senior Chief David Patti, the AJHS NJROTC squad is consistently ranked among the top-units in Arizona and, since 2006, has received national recognition from the Naval Service Training Command as a “Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors.”
