Alvarez and Garayzar receive Wendy’s High School Heisman Award

At a recent governing board meeting, Rio Rico High School Seniors, Jessy-Marie Alvarez and Alexis Garayzar, were each presented with the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award by RRHS JROTC Instructor, Col. Ronnie St. Clair.

The award is given to students who have maintained a 3.0 GPA (or higher), are proven leaders and role models within their school, and perform in an eligible sport. Alvarez is a member of the Hawks Girls Soccer team.  Garayzar is a member of the Hawks Softball team.

“These students are known by their teachers and friends for their commitment to excellence,” said Principal Shelly Vroegh.  “We are excited and honored that a program like Wendy’s High School Heisman is also recognizing their hard work.”

School winners received a School Winner certificate and a Wendy’s High School Heisman Patch.

BackgroundSanta Cruz Valley Unified School District No. 35 is a growing, dynamic school district covering approximately 267 square miles. The district operates five schools. Approximately 3,440 students are enrolled during the 2017-2018 school year.
