Authorities are actively investigating a double shooting incident in Phoenix that spread to multiple locations, prompting the shutdown of part of Interstate 10 in Southern Arizona early Friday morning.

Police from Phoenix responded to the reports of a couple shot about 2 a.m. near 27th Avenue and McDowell Road. When officers responded, they discovered a man and a woman shot at a residence near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road. The couple had tried to drive themselves to the hospital before stopping and calling 911 for help.

The suspect fled the original scene moving south on I-10 where law enforcement officers began pursuit. Officers followed him to the Marana area, just north of Tucson, where the suspect has since barricaded himself in a vehicle with a gun.

With the standoff ongoing, Interstate 10 is closed in both directions at Cortaro Road, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Marana Police, and Pinal County Sheriff’s Office are on scene to assist Phoenix Police. The interstate closure has major disruptions in traffic flow, and it is currently unknown when the interstate will be opened back up.

Operations are still ongoing at the original shooting location in Phoenix and the Marana scene. Police advise people to steer clear of the area until further notice as this situation unravels.

This is an updating story; further updates would come as the information unfolds.
