77 year-old woman killed in suspected drag racing crash on Bardstown Road identified

Authorities have confirmed the 77-year-old woman killed in a tragic crash on Bardstown Road, apparently triggered by drag racing. It was reported that Jefferson County Coroner confirmed the 77-year-old Myrtle Wacker died on her deathbed after the Friday collision in the afternoon. Since the cause of her death is yet to be issued, the police report the reckless driving played an immense role in the tragedy.

The Louisville Metro Police Department reported that 42-year-old Yusnier Bernal was taken into custody at the scene. According to police, he was racing with another vehicle when his car crashed into an SUV by Bardstown Falls Road about 1 p.m. Wacker was a passenger in the SUV, which was driven by a severely injured person who was hospitalized. It is not clear what condition the driver of the SUV is in now.

Bernal was a victim of the accident also and was admitted to the UofL Hospital where he was stabilized before the police took him away. Today, he stands accused on multiple counts that include murder, second-degree assault and two counts of first degree wanton endangerment.

Illegal drag racing poses hazards to the draggers as well as other road users and passersby since it can result in tragic accidents. LMPD is still working to uncover the events leading to this collision.
