Teen driver killed in crash near Preble Butler line identified

The 16-year-old who tragically was killed in a head-on collision Thursday morning in Wayne Township is Wyatt Duckworth, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office. The accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. in the 6700 block of West Elkton Road.

Wyatt Duckworth was killed at the scene with apparent traumatic injuries. A passenger in the vehicle is Wyatt’s 13-year-old sister, Callie Duckworth; she was airlifted to Dayton Children’s Hospital in critical condition after sustaining life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred when Wyatt’s car crossed to the left of center and crashed into an SUV driven by 60-year-old Kevin Johnson, a teacher at Edgewood City Schools. Johnson was also seriously injured and medically airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is being treated.

Wyatt and Callie were part of the students in the Preble Shawnee Local School District, while Wyatt attended high school as an 11th grader.

School Superintendent Todd Bowling wrote to the school community, saying: “Our school community suffered a terrible tragedy. The loss has been justly mourned. Grief counselors and support staff are available for students.”

The Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Response Team, S.T.A.R.T., is investigating the accident. Further information is being held pending further investigation.
