Casa Grande Police arrest man in connection with deadly shooting

An arrest in relation to a fatal shooting was made public by Casa Grande police. An apartment near Trekell and Rodeo Roads was the scene of the shooting. Officers were called to the area on August 2 in response to a report of gunfire, according to a statement posted on Casa Grande Police’s Facebook page on Tuesday. Officers found Michael Morgan suffering from what appeared to be a head wound after they arrived. Bystanders were attempting to provide first aid to Michael. Officers took over aid until paramedics arrived and transferred him to a Phoenix area hospital,” stated a portion of the statement.

On August 4th, Morgan, who was reportedly eighteen, passed away. Police have identified the suspect as Damone Allen Purnell, age 18. They further say Purnell and Morgan were known to be close pals. A section of the statement stated, “Investigators believe the shooting was the result of unsafe weapon handling and horseplay between Purnell and Morgan.” “Purnell was booked in to the Pinal County Adult Detention Centre and charges of 2nd Degree Murder are being submitted to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review.”
