The new case, which was submitted on Monday to a federal court in Northern California, asserted that OpenAI and two of its founders, Greg Brockman and Sam Altman, had violated the terms of the company’s contract, which prioritises profit over the general welfare. According to the study, this is comparable to the original lawsuit’s claim.
Seven weeks ago, Elon Musk abandoned his initial complaint. Just before the judge was set to render a decision, Musk made this change without providing an explanation.
According to the lawsuit, Sam Altman, Brockman, and Elon Musk founded OpenAI in 2015 with the goal of creating artificial intelligence for the good of humanity. Then, the article claims, both of the founders abandoned the company’s objective when it got into a multibillion-dollar deal with Microsoft. The complaint claimed that Musk had been “betrayed by Mr. Altman and his accomplices.” When the New York Times asked Open AI for comments, the company did not answer right away.
According to the report, in response to Musk’s initial lawsuit, Altman stated that they planned to request that the lawsuit’s claims be dropped. The company’s goal is to serve the public interest by creating an artificial general intelligence (A.G.I.) machine that is capable of doing anything that the human brain can. “The mission of OpenAI is to ensure A.G.I. benefits all of humanity, which means both building safe and beneficial A.G.I. and helping create broadly distributed benefits,” they stated.
According to the story, Musk severed his relationship with OpenAI in 2018 following a power battle within the firm. OpenAI was founded with the goal of openly sharing artificial intelligence technology with the public, but it was deemed too hazardous to be under the hands of a single company like Google. In addition to being a for-profit business, Open AI secured $13 billion in funding from Microsoft. In November 2023, Sam Altman was sacked by the OpenAI board, which said that the founder could no longer be trusted with the company’s goal of developing artificial intelligence for the good of humanity. Five days later, the report states, he went back to work for the corporation.
After that occurrence, two months later, Musk sued OpenAI. The report claims that the two founders of OpenAI allegedly misled Musk when they founded the company. The complaint added, “Elon Musk’s case against Sam Altman and OpenAI is a textbook tale of altruism over greed.” According to the lawsuit cited in the news article, “Altman, in concert with other defendants, intentionally courted and deceived Musk, preying on Musk’s humanitarian concern about the existential dangers posed by AI.”
According to the lawsuit, OpenAI and Microsoft have a contract that specifies that after the lab achieves A.G.I., Microsoft will not have any rights to OpenAI’s technology. According to the newspaper, the complaint also questioned whether or not the A.G.I. had been successful in determining whether or not the Microsoft contract should be cancelled.
