West-MEC Introduces Dual Enrollment Program in Partnership with Grand Canyon University

The Western Maricopa Education Center, known as West-MEC, provides technical education training to high school students. West-MEC offers a wide range of courses, including air conditioning technology and culinary arts.

Now, West-MEC is launching a new dual enrollment program in collaboration with Grand Canyon University (GCU).

Speranta Klees, who oversees post-secondary partnerships at West-MEC, mentioned that students will be able to earn a Bachelor of Applied Science in three years after high school.

“Our main goal is to prepare our students for employment, but we also aim to equip them for life,” Klees said. “We understand that a career often involves many steps beyond what they achieve at West-MEC.”

The degree program will focus on three areas: applied technology, applied business information systems, and applied cybersecurity management.

Grand Canyon University has recognized that there are numerous job openings in the trades that lack sufficient applicants and workers,” Klees said.

While West-MEC has partnerships with public universities, Klees noted that GCU’s proximity to the main campus makes it more convenient for students.
