Two men were arrested over the weekend on charges of trying to assault sanitation workers in downtown Nashville. Aaron Daza, 23, and Angel Lebron, 19, face multiple charges after the incident that occurred early Sunday morning near 4th Avenue and Broadway.
It wasn’t until about 12:30 a.m., according to court records, when garbage collectors were working in a nearby alley, that police responded to a report of confrontation. According to court documents, suspects approached the garbage truck, got onto its rear, and were told to get off by workers inside. Apparently, this solicitation escalated into a heated word exchange with one of the suspects.
The officials said the confrontation went out of hand when Daza and Lebron apparently drew things from their waistband and started approaching the waste collectors. While these items remain unknown, the garbage collectors reportedly thought them knives or crowbars. The dealer armed himself with a firearm in response; this made the suspect rush away.
Other officers present at the scene saw Daza and Lebron running from the crime scene and caught them. Witnesses of the crime could report seeing the two suspects throw knives as they ran to get away and this evidence was also useful during their inquiries with the officers.
Both men are charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest. Daza also faces a count of vandalism and is being held at Metro Jail on a $22,000 bond. Lebron is held on a $20,000 bond as both await further proceedings.
