Pedestrian killed in crash identified by Phoenix PD off-duty MCSO employee involved

Phoenix Police have released new information in a deadly pedestrian crash on October 26 near 51st Avenue and Baseline Road. It happened about 7 p.m. and killed 35-year-old Marche Mercado.

The statement reads, officers arrived to find Mercado suffering from serious injuries. She was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, but later succumbed to the injuries. Authorities indicate Mercado had been crossing 51st Avenue just north of Baseline Road mid-block when she got hit by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene following the incident.

In a follow-up message, a spokesperson with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one of the people in this incident does happen to be an employee who was off the clock. However, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing that person’s name and is referring all further questions to Phoenix Police, who have ongoing work on the investigation.
