Mugshot of woman accused in gruesome death investigation released

The scene that unfolded in Bourbon County on Tuesday was horrifying, when a man working on a property found a body in the backyard. This resulted in the arrest of homeowner Torilena May Fields on multiple counts, among them abuse of a corpse.

From a witness who was on the property to work, the amazing discovery was apparently made as Fields allegedly cast spells on him and his coworker. Things then quickly degenerated into chaos as authorities were called to the house on Brierly Ridge Road, subsequently triggering an intense standoff with police between Fields.

Before officers could reach the scene, they attempted to contact Fields, who had obstructed themselves inside the house. Since there was no response, Kentucky State Police had no other option but to use tear gas on Fields to subdue her and to enter the house. What they found inside was even worse.

According to the warrant for arrest, the police said they found human body parts inside an oven and a pot was still warm on the stove. It’s unclear who this victim is or what led to the death; that, too, is now under investigation.

Fields, 32, was taken into custody late Tuesday night. She is being held in the Bourbon County Detention Center on charges of obstructing governmental operations, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse. Investigators are not ruling out further charges at this time.

Still, the cause of death remains unknown and the timeline of events until bodies were discovered still unclear at this point. The community is in shock over the bizarre antics of Fields, including reported attempts at spell-casting. Many people are struggling to make sense of the tragedy.

Forensic teams and investigators continue to investigate as forensic tests continue to try to illuminate one of the saddest tragedies associated with a small Kentucky community.
