Metro police searching, padlocking South Nashville home

Metro police searching padlocking South Nashville home

Metro Nashville Police Department took the unusual step of declaring a South Nashville residence a “public nuisance” Thursday morning, which led to a search and subsequent lockdown of the property.

Police said officers were at the house in the 4900 block of Shasta Drive around 10:15 this morning to enforce closure. The property is padlocked, a step police said was necessary to ensure neighborhood safety.

“This is an extreme but necessary action for the wellbeing of families living in the Shasta Drive area,” Metro Police Chief John Drake said.

The action follows various incidents, which allegedly occurred or occurred in the vicinity. For example, police responded over 10 months ago to a shooting that occurred near the property. In Thursday’s operation, officers also reportedly found a stolen 2002 blue Nissan Frontier, which has been missing since December last year and was parked in the upper driveway.

This raid is similar to a February 2020 operation in which MNPD classified a Hermitage home as a public nuisance due to issues surrounding a homicide and other drug-related activities. That raid found 26 people inside, including 11 with active warrants, and a baby living in an unsafe environment.

Presently, events on Shasta Drive continue; no further information has been released so far.
