Glendale police are looking for a group of masked suspects who attacked a man, shot him and ransacked his home in the early hours of Thursday morning in a West Valley neighborhood.
The homeowner was filling up his car when he became aware of someone shining a light directly into his face. At first, he thought it was just a prank by a friend and swatted at the light source. In an instant, he realized he was faced with three to four masked men and that the “flashlight” was actually a pistol with a light attached.
The gang then attacked the homeowner in the driveway. To get away, the victim ran down the street toward his neighbor’s house but, while running, heard a gunshot and knew he was hit in the leg. The man was still able to gain a hiding place and therefore not experience further harm.
But during the time the victim hid, the culprits busted into his house, where a female was present. They took her to another room, then proceeded to ransack the house. Police do not know at this point whether something was removed from the house. The suspects escaped in unknown directions.
The homeowner was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound, which is reported to be non-life-threatening. The woman inside the house was unharmed during the ordeal.
No detailed description of the suspects has been given, and authorities are still trying to establish a motive for the attack. Glendale Police officials said that the suspects were masked; investigators said anyone with information should come forward as the investigation continues.
The community remains on edge while police work through their evidence and leads in finding the culprits.
