Kamala to Announce Economic Plans in North Carolina

On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris is in Raleigh, North Carolina, promoting her economic policies, which include a suggestion for a federal prohibition on grocery price gouging. Among other things, Harris’s plan calls for new tax advantages, a decrease in the cost of living for Americans, $25,000 in down payment assistance for some first-time homebuyers, and tax breaks for starter house builders. The Democratic nominee for president is promoting tax breaks for middle-class and lower-class individuals as well as families. Additionally, he wants to increase the child tax credit to a maximum of $3,600, with an additional $6,000 available for infants under the age of one.

The Associated Press reports that Harris wants to increase the earned income tax credit, which could result in a $1,500 tax rate reduction for those in lower-paying occupations who do not have children. The Affordable Care Act is another tool the vice president wants to use to cut health insurance prices. The AP reported that Harris’s supermarket pricing program calls out a lack of competition in the meat-packing industry for driving up meat prices and advises the Federal Trade Commission to punish businesses involved in price spikes.

Over the past few weeks, Harris has travelled to battleground states, which has increased the number of contests that political analysts consider competitive. In 2024, President Joe Biden and Senator Harris paid visits to North Carolina. Raleigh was the first place in which Biden staged a rally to reenergise Democratic voters following his poor performance in the June debate against Donald Trump.
