According to various people familiar with Vice President Harris’ plans who spoke with The Post, she interviewed at least three possible hopefuls today in Washington: Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, and Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania for the position of running mate. Former President Donald Trump proceeded to disparage Harris during a rally in Atlanta on Saturday night, in addition to criticizing Georgia’s well-liked Republican governor, Brian Kemp. According to both camps, Georgia is in play.
By Tuesday night, when she and the candidate will make their appearance in Philadelphia for the first of seven rallies over the course of five days, Harris will reveal her choice for vice president.
Following her announcement of her candidacy, her campaign raised over $300 million last month, much surpassing competitor and former president Donald Trump’s July fundraising efforts. A large portion of that money was sent to Harris in the week following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not be seeking reelection.
Having officially received enough votes to be the Democratic nominee, Harris must now select a vice presidential candidate.
A number of contenders, including Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, have freed up their weekends in order to be ready to enter the race. Harris’s vetting team has met with at least six people to consider candidacies, although not all of them are as strong candidates as the others.
