Isolated storms expected across Middle Tennessee on Saturday

Through very early Sunday morning, Middle Tennessee is likely to see rain and thunderstorms. Because of the thick, humid air in our area, some of the storms can occasionally be very strong or violent. The start of next week will see temperatures drop into the 70s and 80s when the cold front moves in on Sunday. Our northeast counties, which include southern Kentucky east of I-65 and northeastern Middle Tennessee, are currently under a Slight Risk (level 2/5) due to the ongoing Marginal Risk (level 1/5) on Saturday.A few powerful storms are possible due to elevated humidity and moisture, an impending cold front, and warm/unstable air. The main danger is strong winds, but there’s also a chance of severe rain and hail. For areas of southern Kentucky east of Interstate 65, there is a very low danger of tornadoes. Saturday is going to be a day of flash floods. Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky will have humid conditions that feel like the mid- to upper-90s, giving storms plenty of energy to access as they form. It’s going to be a hot Saturday. There might not be much storm activity during the day. The most recent model data, however, indicates that a line of powerful and gusty storms will plunge into Southern Kentucky and Middle Tennessee along with the cold front on Saturday evening. As a result, even if the Tennessee Titans’ second preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks might not end with storms, it might begin dry. A cold front will move in tandem with this to reduce the likelihood of rain and deliver somewhat less humid air to our area into the next week.Rainfall quantities in stronger storms could exceed one inch. Rainfall amounts in most places are less than half an inch on average through Sunday.
