According to her campaign, US Vice President Kamala Harris raised a record $310 million in July, which gives her a financial advantage against Republican Donald Trump.
Trump, the GOP nominee, raised $138.7 million in July; Harris’ haul, which includes funds raised for her campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and state parties, more than twice that amount. She had more cash on hand than Trump did at the beginning of August, with $377 million, the greatest war chest at this stage of an election season.
“Well, I would want to,” Trump stated on Fox Business Network’s Mornings with Maria on Friday, August 2. “I say to myself right now, ‘Why should I do a debate?'” Everyone knows me and everyone knows her, and I’m leading the polls. Harris has been pressuring Trump to cancel the discussion he had planned with President Joe Biden for September 10th, which was due to be hosted by ABC News.
Harris is expected to announce her candidacy as the Democratic contender for president in the coming days. Following a dismal showing in their first debate, the president decided to drop his reelection campaign and support Harris.
Given that Trump will be facing a fresh opponent just three months before Election Day, his campaign has forced to modify its approach. With the help of important constituencies like Black voters and young people, Harris has galvanised Democrats to close the gap with the Republican and pass him in the financial race. The former president and his team have refused to commit to a debate, first stating that formal plans could not be made until Democrats had selected their candidate to succeed Biden. On Monday, Trump stated there was “a case for not doing it” but added that he would “probably end up debating” Harris.
