Clay County man arrested, charged with murder after allegedly running over woman during carjacking

According to officials, Michael Edwards was taken into custody by London police after the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office asked for assistance following a tip that Edwards was travelling to the London region. The woman tried to stop Edwards and “was drug some distance, before falling and being run over by Edwards,” which resulted in her death, according to information provided to London police about Edwards’ suspected carjacking. In addition, Edwards allegedly tried to break into a house, pointing a gun at the owner before running into the woods, according to the officers.

When London police arrived, they discovered Edwards in a field with a ravine close to the boundary between Laurel and Jackson counties. Edwards was armed. After a brief altercation, officers were able to take Edwards into custody and retrieve the weapon from him, according to reports. Authorities stated that Edwards was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and faced several counts, including murder.
