Phoenix, Ariz. – Camp Catanese, a local non-profit, celebrated the achievements of 250 underserved 7th – 12th grade Valley students during a graduation program culminating their 8th annual overnight Summer Camp on June 4 at ASU West Valley Campus. 85% of those who attended the camp will be first generation college students who experienced hands-on activities focused on the goal of building a passion for higher education.
“Camp Catanese is a place with no limits. This was another amazing year of encouraging each of our campers to dream big and follow their dreams. I’m so proud of each and everyone of them.” said Jason Catanese, Founder & CEO at Camp Catanese and Maryvale-based middle school educator.
Camp Catanese students in the class of 2024 were honored for their hard work and commitment during the June 3 graduation ceremony, attended by over 400 campers, volunteers, family and community members.
Each 2024 graduate wore a cap and gown and received a Camp Catanese diploma to commemorate the experience. Students prepared impactful keynote speeches about the overnight camp experience including participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities designed to create a passion for students’ potential career pathways and provide new opportunities. All graduates will be pursuing post-secondary education.
Over 70 nation-wide volunteers within the Camp Catanese network and Arizona State University faculty members delivered content about readying for college including scholarship information, filling out college applications, mental health topics and more.
In addition to graduation, students participated in a daily Morning “Yoga” Dance with Mr. Catanese, College Access Programming led by Arizona State University, Morning Programming which provided hands-on experience of a ‘day in the life’ of ten different potential professions and Challenge Courses which focused on teamwork and problem solving skills.
Camp Catanese also held a USA Pickleball Serves Clinic on May 30, a celebratory camp Photo Day on June 1 and Camp Olympics on June 2 which culminated in a team trophy and celebration.
Camp Catanese hosts year-round programs, with the next signature overnight camp occurring in fall 2024 where junior and senior Valley students will prepare for college by working on personal statements and college applications.
Summer Camp 2025 registration will open in February 2025 on campcatanese.org.
