Arrest made in Maryville decades-old cold case

For over nearly 40 years now, the case of murdered Billy Wayne Herron since 1985 remained the cold case. According to the Maryville Police Chief, Tony J. Crisp, an arrest was confirmed in the case Wednesday before a press conference at Maryville Municipal Building, according to reports.

According to Chief Crisp, Roger Oody, who is serving time for another 1987 Monroe County homicide, has emerged as the primary suspect in the murder of Herron. Herron is a victim found dead in a trailer at Shady Acres Trailer Park with multiple stab wounds and blunt force injuries, whose killing remained unsolved for decades until recent breakthroughs in the case.

“This arrest is a huge step toward justice for Billy Wayne Herron and for his family, who, for nearly 40 years now, have waited for those answers,” said Crisp.

In the investigation, District Attorney General Ryan Desmond pointed that it was the persistence with new evidence that eventually caught Oody to connect her with the murder of Herron.

This arrest revitalized the long-standing cases and highlighted that law enforcement is determined to pursue even the most mileage of time served against justice.
