During an offseason fitness session, the sophomore at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School needed medical assistance and was sent to the hospital. Emergency services were summoned to Shawnee Mission Northwest High School on Wednesday afternoon, according to Johnson County officials. The 15-year-old student was taken to the hospital by first responders while in critical condition. On Friday, the school district received word that the pupil had passed away.
The information was provided to families via email by the district. “We found out this morning that Ovet Gomez Regalado, a student at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, passed away. It has been a really trying period for the family, as you may understand. Part of the statement from principal Lisa Gruman added, “Ovet was such a warm and wonderful student that touched the hearts of so many in our community.” According to Gruman, there are still a lot of unanswered questions around Ovet’s passing. The event has affected the entire district.
We are all shocked by this news. It is not anticipated to occur. According to David Smith, a spokesman for the Shawnee Mission School District, “young people shouldn’t die.”
“We’re all just attempting to accept that, understand it, and experience the sadness that goes along with it. This is not how things are meant to unfold. Smith added that many people will miss Ovet. Smith continued, “Based on the feedback I’ve received from educators and other staff, this was a great kid and there will be a real loss at Northwest.” Anyone who is finding it difficult to deal with the emotional circumstances can speak with staff at the school.
