A 14-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a shooting Friday night in East Nashville that killed someone, Metro Nashville Police said.
Jeremiah Smith is charged with criminal homicide, robbery, auto theft, and evidence tampering. He is accused of opening fire about 7:40 p.m. on North 6th Street outside a Nashville apartment complex.
A 14-year-old victim, Brenden Grady, was shot and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The reports indicate that Smith was attempting to steal the pistol from Grady at the moment of the shooting.
Following the shooting, Smith fled the scene in a carjacked Toyota Tundra. Police later recovered his car in the South 5th Street parking garage. Smith has been arrested at his grandmother’s home and remains held in a juvenile detention center.
