Yuma welding student trains for international competition

Isaiah Gaspar, a Kofa High School graduate and Arizona Western College student, has earned his place in the top six in the United States to compete at the American Welding Society U.S. Invitational Weld Trials.

The competition will be hosted November 11-13 at the 2014 FABTECH & AWS Welding Show in Atlanta, Georgia at the World Congress Center.

Gaspar’s high school welding instructor, Ron Pixley of Kofa High School, will be joining him for this competition event. Isaiah will begin additional training at Arizona Western College in the coming weeks in preparation for his competition in Atlanta.

Every two years, the top 6 Pre Trial finalists compete for the top 3 positions at the AWS U.S. Invitational Weld Trials held at the annual AWS/FABTECH Exposition.

These six Americans compete alongside competitors from up to 24 WorldSkills countries.

This event fosters international camaraderie and greatly improves the American welders’ ability to compete on the world stage.
