Arizona State University has launched an exciting green electronic waste contest on Monday, April 7th in partnership with New America Foundation, Slate magazine and Tsinghua University, designed to inspire innovation, education, leadership, team-building and intercultural exchange.
The U.S. and China are major producers of e-waste – the world’s fastest growing waste stream, which includes anything with a plug, even old refrigerators and motorized toothbrushes – so the overall challenge theme is to prevent the creation of electronic waste.
This contest’s mission is to redefine the concept of “waste” and participants, 13 and up, are invited to upcycle or hack an electronic product to create a new electronic product; repair an electronic product; create a sustainable electronic product; and/or create artwork from used electronic products. Contest ends May 31, 2014!
