Veritas Preparatory Academy, a school within the Great Hearts Academies charter school network, was recently ranked in the top three public high schools in Arizona based on four-year college completion rates.
The rankings were published in an Arizona Board of Regents Report reviewing four-year college completion rates from public Arizona high schools in 2007-2008.
“Veritas Prep students participate in a challenging and well-rounded academic curriculum that includes four years of lab science, two years of calculus and intensive foreign language study. This engages them as lifelong learners and shapes them into critical thinkers,” said Douglas Minson, headmaster of Veritas Prep.
“Our curriculum incorporates a dedicated focus on college counseling and preparation that ensures our students are positioned for success in any field of study at the most prestigious institutions,” Minson said. “By the time our seniors graduate they will have spent countless hours working with college counselors, participating in hands-on college application workshops with college admissions officers, and meeting with as many as 90 college representatives in on-campus information sessions.”
“We’re thrilled to see our Veritas Prep graduates recognized for their outstanding four-year college completion rates,” said Erik Twist, President of Great Hearts Arizona. “This data evaluated the first graduating class from our first school, making this recognition particularly notable. Great Hearts is committed to providing the best education possible to Arizona students, through our tuition-free public schools. We are proud to see more than 95% of Great Hearts graduates immediately attend four-year colleges and universities.”
Since opening Veritas Prep in 2004, Great Hearts has seen a steady demand for its schools. Today, it operates 22 academies across the Phoenix area and recently expanded its network into Texas. In Arizona, Great Hearts serves more than 11,000 students, with a wait list that exceeds current enrollment.
