Tucson Unified School District is offering scholarships to middle and high school students to be a part of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) this fall.

Scholarships will be awarded to 24 of the most qualified candidates and will learn how to start and run their own, real businesses.

The Tucson Unified School District has offered each accepted student $850 toward the $949 tuition cost.

YEA!, sponsored by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation and hosted at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Business, is an innovative program that transforms students into real entrepreneurial successes.

To date, 3,172 new businesses have been launched by YEA! students, with over 4,000 graduates. YEA! operates in over 100 communities in 38 states across the country.

YEA! students have been featured on Good Morning America, Shark Tank and CNBC.

This collaboration is giving local students a chance to participate in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy and we are grateful for their support and belief in YEA!,” says Lea Marquez Peterson of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“I’m excited to give the Young Entrepreneurs Academy students an opportunity to start their future now, and from this opportunity we will be able to do great things throughout our community and for the YEA! program,” said Stephanie Bermudez, Program Manager for the Tucson Hispanic Chamber Foundation YEA! program.

“We feel lucky to be able to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship within our local students,” says Charles McCollum “We believe in providing the means to encourage these young students to embrace their creativity and passions. We hope that empowering them at such a young age will inspire them to do even greater things in the future.”

YEA! is a groundbreaking program that takes students between the ages of 11 and 18 through the process of starting and launching a real business or social movement over the course of an academic year.

By the end of the class, students own and operate fully-formed and functioning businesses, which may be carried on after their graduation from the program.

YEA! aims to teach students at an early age how to make a job, not just take a job.

YEA! Is currently accepting applications for the 16-17′ YEA! Tucson class hosted at the University of Arizona Eller College of Management.

Classes begin in the fall of 2016 and meet once a week after school on MONDAY from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  from October 2016 through May 2017.

Class does not meet during school breaks or holiday recess. Tuition for the year is $945.00 and includes materials, books, supplies, and field trip transportation. Scholarships are available to all Tucson Unified students who apply for the program.

The application deadline is Sept. 30, 2016. Students are encouraged to apply early.
