Teacher starts Point-Of-Sale initiative with AZEdNews Classroom Grant sponsored by Davidson/Belluso

Corinne Angello, a culinary arts instructor for Pima Joint Technical Education District at Mountain View High School in Marana Unified School District in Tucson, Arizona, has been awarded the AZEdNews Classroom Grant sponsored by Davidson/Belluso for her point-of-sale (POS) training initiative.
“This will better prepare students as well as make them more marketable to employers,” said Angello.
Angello continued, “It’s hands on and applies real world and workforce learning. Students tend to be more engaged when the content is connected to real life and job training.”

As POS systems are integral to many restaurant and retail jobs, Angello hopes that her students will be better prepared to enter the workforce with early training.
“I think it’s really important that the students have a background in point-of-sale,” Angello said. “This is just one more thing that they can put on their resumé to make them so much more employable.”
The AZEdNews Classroom Grant is sponsored by Davidson/Belluso, a longtime partner of AZEdNews and Arizona School Boards Association.
Davidson/Belluso is a Phoenix-based advertising agency that has devoted itself to rewarding Arizona teachers for their dedication to their students and communities.
Davidson/Belluso also helps to fund innovative educational programs to better their communities.
“We’re really excited to be a part of these grants and to recognize teachers in Arizona,” said Mike Barcia, general manager of Davidson/Belluso.
The Pima JTED program aims to prepare students for careers as best as possible, and Angello said they have good prospects once they have finished the program.
“Students do get certified at the end of the program,” said Angello, adding, “We work directly with a lot of restaurants and hotels.”
“My students are really going to appreciate this opportunity,” said Angello.
