Each year students and staff members of Tarver Elementary gather to honor their school’s namesake, Bret R. Tarver and recognize everyday heroes in the community.
This year’s Opening Ceremony speaker, David Berling, exemplifies the theme of those who don’t let obstacles stand in the way of their goals.
Berling lost both of his legs and is pursuing his dream to participate in the upcoming Paralympics in the hand-cycling event.
Tarver Day celebrates the birthday of Bret R. Tarver, a Phoenix Firefighter who lost his life while battling a blaze at a shopping center, and honors his legacy each year.
