Nicola Ferguson (pictured), a 7th grade student at Sunrise Middle School, won the Regional II Spelling Bee held Thursday, February 18th.

Nicola advances to the State Spelling Bee to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19th at the Arizona PBS Studios.

In all, 45 students (nine from PVSchools) participated in the Regional II Spelling Bee, which lasted nine rounds until the winning word was spelled correctly. Nicola’s winning word was “aquiline.”

This is the second year in a row that PVSchools has produced the Regional II Spelling Bee winner.
The winner of the State Spelling Bee will represent Arizona at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
